PasswordAttendant

May 1, 2006 - OneMeg.com releases PasswordAttendant as a free application.  Over the past few years, we have had great response to the application and our users tell us that they use the program on a daily basis.  The manner in which we licensed PasswordAttendant (sending customers an application key) is too time consuming to justify continuation and the market will not bear a price increase as there are other applications available.  We were faced with the dilemma of  making either changes to the code to simply and streamline the licensing process or simply generating one more license and offering the software for free.  It was an easy decision.

So, is the product dead?  Simply put, no.  We continue to use the product each and every day.  It has worked flawlessly for years now and performs all the functions we and the majority of our clients need.  If we make a change to the software to enhance it for our purposes, we will gladly share those enhancements.  We appreciate all the support we have received over the years and wanted to say thanks!

Getting your free copy:

  1. Download and install PasswordAttendant
  2. After installing PasswordAttendant, download and run the license key installer.

PasswordAttendant can be run from a USB memory stick.  There are a couple of precautions you should be aware of though.  You will need to get the latest version of the executable (yes it is different than the one installed from step 1 above) and use it.  This new version utilizes two icon colors to indicate when files are open (unsafe to unplug the drive) and when the files are closed (safe to unplug as far as PasswordAttendant is concerned - there may be other systems using the drive so check them as well).

We also wrote a small utility called PasswordAttendant Auto Start, that will monitor drives (like USB drives) and automatically execute PasswordAttendant if it is not already running.  Copy PAAS.EXE to the same folder as PasswordAttendant and create a shortcut in your STARTUP menu so that it will run whenever your computer starts.
